Charles T. Spada focuses his practice on representing individuals and entities in business and financial litigation, regulatory enforcement, and white-collar criminal matters.  Mr. Spada has practiced for more than 20 years at LS&W, where he has regularly handled complex litigation before federal and state trial courts and appellate courts, as well as investigations involving the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, various district attorneys’ and attorney generals’ offices, and other regulatory agencies.

Mr. Spada has represented corporations and financial institutions, boards of directors and special committees, chief executive officers, chief financial officers, general counsels, compliance officers, traders, portfolio managers, public accountants, lawyers, theatrical production companies, and Tony-award winning directors and artists, frequently in sensitive and high-profile matters.  His litigation and investigatory experience with complex matters cuts across a broad array of industries, including investment and commercial banking (loan syndications and participations), securities and derivatives (sales and trading), investment advisors, hedge funds, private equity, mutual funds, accounting, law, technology (software and hardware), intellectual property licensing, arts and entertainment, tax (corporate and individual income/sales tax), financial news and media, advertising, commercial and municipal bond insurance, oil and gas, industrial chemicals, healthcare, consumer products, commercial real estate, construction, government and government contracting, education, and not-for-profit corporations.  Mr. Spada also frequently advises companies and their boards on corporate governance and compliance matters.

Mr. Spada is routinely listed in Super Lawyers for business litigation.  He is a member of the Federal Bar Council American Inn of Court, the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association and the New York City Bar Association.  He has written and lectured on various professional topics.

Mr. Spada previously served as the Deputy Head of Compliance in the Americas division of Reuters (now Thomson Reuters), where he was responsible for the development and implementation of global compliance programs, the handling of investigations and litigations, and antitrust approval for global acquisitions (including the company’s acquisition of Bridge Information Systems).

Mr. Spada received a B.S. magna cum laude in Business & Finance from Boston College and a J.D. cum laude from Cornell Law School in 1990.  He served as a law clerk to the Honorable Roger J. Miner, United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, from 1991 to 1992.
