On May 23, 2023, LSW partner Jillian Berman moderated a fireside chat with U.S. Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Commissioner Christy Goldsmith Romero at the Women in White Collar Kickoff Reception to the 11th annual  New York City Bar Association White Collar Crime Institute.  

Ms. Berman and Commissioner Christy Goldsmith Romero discussed current issues involving the CFTC, including enforcement priorities and developments regarding artificial intelligence. 

The White Collar Crime Institute is an annual CLE program, and attracts practitioners from around the nation. This year, the White Collar Crime Committee assembled a comprehensive full-day program to explore critical developments that have characterized this era of white collar enforcement, including: 

• Developments in Trading Related Prosecutions
• Off-Channel Communications
• Cryptocurrency Enforcement
• Sanctions/Kleptocracy
• Lessons from Recent Trials

 

In addition to CFTC Commissioner Goldsmith Romero, the Institute featured keynote speaker Assistant Attorney General Kenneth Polite and New York State DFS Superintendent Adrienne Harris.  Other panelists at the White Collar Institute included leading private practitioners in white collar and regulatory defense, as well as senior government lawyers and trial attorneys.
